Best of 2013: Singles Part 3 (10-1)

ATCBestof2013The final ten songs on my list of the best singles of the year feature only one male artist, one group, and a handful of outstanding female artists. These are the ten songs that, in my eyes, have been landmark singles on country radio (though not many have experienced chart success). They tackle various social issues, heartache, and love, but ultimately they are outstanding representations of what country music should be and needs to be. In my opinion, 2013 has been one of the best years for country music thanks to these ten songs.  Continue reading

2013 CMA Awards: Official Predictions

Photo-SHOWSHEET_CMA_Hosts_2013-color1My favorite day of the year has finally arrived! Tonight all eyes will be on Nashville as the 47th Annual CMA Awards will be held live from Bridgestone Arena. Hosted for the sixth time by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley, the night promises to be filled with plenty of glitz and glamour as country music’s biggest superstars take the stage. Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Kacey Musgraves, Carrie Underwood, and many, many, more are performing during the telecast as well as a special tribute to George Jones by George Strait and Alan Jackson. Of course the night will also honor the “best” of country music this past year. Coming into the night Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves are tied for the most nominations with six apiece. Here are my official predictions for who will walk away big winners tonight.

Kacey Musgraves, “Follow Your Arrow”

kacey-musgraves-follow-your-arrow-hSince bursting on the scene with immense critical acclaim, country cutie Kacey Musgraves has become one of the most authentic artists in today’s country music. Her debut single “Merry Go ‘Round” was included on countless lists of best singles of 2012 and she’ll no doubt be appearing on Best of 2013 lists with the follow-up single, “Blowin’ Smoke.” However, it’s the singer’s latest single that has everyone talking.
