Best of 2013: Singles – Part 1 (30-21)

ATCBestof2013The year is winding down as we’ve reached the middle part of December. That means it is time to unveil the list of Best Singles of the year, as ranked by me of course. When I starting putting together this list, I realized that 1) there are several artists who appear twice this year and 2) that female artists have been the most creative, authentic, and truly country artists this year. Artist to Watch: Greg Bates, The Neotraditionalist

If you listen to any country radio station, it’s nearly impossible to hear anything that resembles the genre’s foundation. The reason for that is it’s becoming more difficult to find a song that includes the exquisite twang of a fiddle or the heart wrenching cry of a steel guitar on country radio. Thankfully there are a handful of artists who are are trying to keep those sounds alive including legends like George Strait and Alan Jackson as well as young artists like Easton Corbin and Chris Young. Now there’s a new guy in town who has the potential to become a country superstar and his name is Greg Bates.

Chris Young, “Neon”

Chris Young is probably one of the hottest male vocalists in country music right now. He’s got a string of number one singles, five to be exact, along with a couple ACM and CMA nominations under his belt. His recent album, Neon, was one of 2011’s most critically acclaimed albums (it landed on ATC’s Best Albums of the Year list) and has spawned two of those five straight number one singles. Will the album’s title track make it the singer’s sixth consecutive chart-topper?

Easton Corbin, “Lovin’ You is Fun”

Easton Corbin has quickly become a radio favorite. After he came out of the gates with two back-to-back number one singles (“A Little More Country than That” and “Roll With It”) he continued that momentum with his third consecutive top 20 hit, “I Can’t Love You Back.” After a little time away from radio to tour and record new music, we finally have the chance to hear something new and fresh from the newcomer with a song that could potentially be the summer’s first big hit, “Lovin’ You is Fun.”
