The 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards is finally here! The annual awards show will take place live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas this Sunday night on CBS. The show will once again be hosted by Reba and Blake Shelton and will feature over-the-top performance from some of the genre’s biggest superstars. However, the entire night will revolve around the multiple trophy presentations that will take place. As with every other awards show, I will offer my predictions for the night’s big winners!

Since 2009 I’ve written all about how I feel about country music from new singles, albums, videos, concerts and basically anything else related to the genre I so dearly love. But other than my opinions, I don’t think y’all know about who I am as a person and how I’ve become so passionate about country. That’s where this new feature comes in. Me and Country Music will basically chronicle my life by recollecting how specific artists, songs, and even albums have influenced me. From the many happy, joyous memories to the ones that weren’t so joyful, country music pretty much led me to who I am today. So I hope you enjoy these little blurbs about my life and who I am as a person.
Easton Corbin has quickly become a radio favorite. After he came out of the gates with two back-to-back number one singles (“A Little More Country than That” and “Roll With It”) he continued that momentum with his third consecutive top 20 hit, “I Can’t Love You Back.” After a little time away from radio to tour and record new music, we finally have the chance to hear something new and fresh from the newcomer with a song that could potentially be the summer’s first big hit, “Lovin’ You is Fun.”
Kip Moore made his debut on country radio last year with the fantastic “Mary Was the Marrying Kind,” which made our list of Top Singles of 2011. Now the singer is climbing the charts with his first top 20 hit, “Somethin’ ’bout a Truck.” I think he’ll have major success in 2012 which is why he’s next up in our Artists to Watch series.
2012 is already turning out to be a big year for new artists. We’ve had a couple of “newbies” climb into the top 30 on the Billboard charts for the first time in their careers as well as a couple who’ve made history. To honor those up-and-comers, ATC is going to highlight a few of them in its Artists to Watch series. I’ll of course be reviewing their current radio single as well as sharing my opinion of why they could have a big year in 2012. First up in the series is the actress-turned-singer Jana Kramer.
If you were to ask most country artists today what their primary goal of being a singer is, most likely they will answer by saying they simply want to touch and move people. They want to record and release music that not only resonates with them, but that will resonate with their audience as well. However, achieving that goal is easier said than done. In fact, it’s rare to find a song where the artist’s delivery matches the powerful message behind a set of lyrics. In recent years we’ve found a couple gems that live up that incredibly high standard of quality with songs by Miranda Lambert (“The House that Built Me”) and Sugarland (“Stay”). David Nail’s “The Sound of a Million Dreams” can now be added to that list of incredible songs.
ATC is excited to launch its newest contest courtesy of Sony Nashville which features one of country’s hottest male vocalists, Jake Owen! The Grand Prize winner will receive an autographed guitar and a one year Jake Owen Fan Club membership. All you have to do to enter is simply “Like” us on our Facebook page and then look for the Sony Nashville Sweeps app and enter there! You better hurry and do it quick though because you only have til March 14 to get your entry in! Good luck!
