Billboard Chart Flash: Week of March 29 – April 4

This week, two groups top the Country Albums and Hot Country Songs charts. Lady Antebellum held off another big album release while one group climbed to the top of the singles chart. Find out which other group made the climb to the top in this week’s Chart Flash.

On the Country Albums chart, Lady Antebellum once again finds itself on top of the albums chart with Need You Now which sold 86,000 copies bringing the total to 1.6 million copies. Coming in strong is Alan Jackson’s latest release, Freight Train, which debuts at number two with 72,000 units sold. Holding strong in the third spot is Taylor Swift’s Fearless while Zac Brown Band’s The Foundation slips down to the number four spot. Rounding out the top five is Carrie Underwood with Play On.

In other album news, Gretchen Wilson’s I Got Your Country Right Here debuts at number six by selling 14,700 copies, a solid debut considering Wilson’s waited awhile to finally release this album.

Over on the singles chart, Zac Brown Band’s “Highway 20 Ride” climbs up to the top spot, sending Carrie Underwood’s “Temporary Home” down to the number four spot. Also climbing up the charts is Lady Antebellum which finds its song, “American Honey,” in the second position. Holding steady at number three is Easton Corbin’s debut single, “A Little More Country Than That.” Meanwhile, Keith Urban’s “‘Til Summer Comes Around” remains in the number five spot for a third straight week.

There are only two songs making their debut this week and Blake Shelton’s “All About Tonight” leads the way at number 45. Rodney Atkins’ “Farmer’s Daughter” is the other song and finds itself in the 51 spot in its first week.

Next week, Lady Antebellum could possibly rule both the albums and singles charts if “American Honey” can gain more airplay than “Highway 20 Ride.” With no major album releases this week, it’s once again hard to think that Need You Now will vacate the top album spot. We’ll find out next week if Lady A can continue its rise to superstardom.
